Ok, here goes..
I am a lawyer not a network admin so please go easy on me if I have made some horridly glaring error.
I have set up an IPSEC VPN between our existing office and our newly established branch office. The VPN being handled by routers in both offices.
All the machines at the branch office can ping the machines at the main office and all machines at the main office can successfully ping machines at the branch.
I can log into the router at the branch office fromt he mani office and I can log into the router at the main office from the branch.
The problem is accessing shared resources on machines at the Main office.
At the main office we have a Linux based file server and a Windows XP machine that runs the practice accounting software and time and billing software.
The branch office can access the Linux file server no problems at all, but cannot access shared folders on the Windows XP machine.
The only modification to the Linux box was to add the Branch office IP range to the allowed IPs. for the record the Network IDs are 192.168.2.0 (Main) and 192.168.3.0 (branch).
My question is – why can’t the branch office machines access the shared folders on the XP machine and how do I fix that?
