Activating Windows Server 2003 test disaster recovery plan

by brian . Updated 18 years, 3 months ago

I’m using Acronis True Image echo to test restoring a production windows server onto a different hardware platform (using the Universal Restore – bare metal recovery option).

However, upon booting the test ‘clone’ (which is off the network for now), I am prompted to activate that copy of Windows Server on the new hardware.

My question is this: If I activate onto the new hardware, will this ‘harm’ the existing activation of the production server? I will only have the OS running on the test clone for as long as it takes to validate that the process went as expected.

This is a required element of our disaster recovery plan testing… I just want to make sure it won’t impact our production environment by screwing up licensing data.
