Active Directory Transfer

I have a domain running with two domain controllers, A1 and A2, with 8 workstations. A1 is running server 2k and A2 is running server 2k3. The FSMO roles reside on A2. If the server running server 2k is demoted to a stand alone child server will the Active Directory automatically be transfered to A2 and reside there? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
