Add Additional Exchange 2K3 To Existing Domain In Another Office

by jrollison . Updated 18 years, 5 months ago

We are going to be opening another office in Asia, The office has one 2K3 server running exchange 2K3 SP2 and a NAS box for storage.

Since this office in Asia is going to be 15 people and growing on opening. How can I implement another exchange server in the asia office? It would be apart of our current domain and AD in the office here in north america.

I have never done this kind of configuration before. There will be a VPN tunnel between the offices so the DC’s can replicate. But I’m wondering if putting an exchange server at that location would be benificial?

Solutions I thought of.
1.)Put DC and Exchange onsite in Asia. Register a new domain for that exchange server. I could have the MX record point to north america server then setup routing groups to that exchange server in asia.

2.)Put DC and Exchange onsite in Asia and only put certain mailbox’s if I can on that asia server. Then that would lessen replication traffic if I can do that.

Any information would be appriciated.

Currently I manage 3 other exchange servers but they are only single server setups in small business environments (not SBS servers). This is the first office expansion. Im having to investagate and research.
