Adding a standby server

I would like to add a standby server to an existing network to go online in case the main server goes down. The main server is set up as a domain controller and serves a database program and an email proxy program. There are 7 other win98 machines attached to the network. Does anyone know of any software to do this or any suggestions on how to set this up economically?
