For a small not for profit I am upgrading their servers to W2K3R2. As an interim step I want to deploy an alternate TS server to continue to support remote users. Since the current TS certificates are being issued by a Windows2000 Server, the alternate server (running W2K3R2) won’t recognize these certificates.
My plan is to buy some additional CAL’s, install them on the alternate server and have that server look to itself for certificates.
I am using per device licensing.
When I upgrade the current TS server, it will point to the new TS server that I’ve installed.
Then, when I upgrade the current TS Licensing server, currently running W2K, to W2K3 I’ll buy the remaining CAL’s that I think I’ll need since I expect I’ll lose the old CAL’s installed in the W2K environment.
Has anyone gone through this scenario? Can anyone see any flaws in this approach?
