Adding RAM

Hello all once again, yes it’s me with another basic question.

I have ordered 1GB of RAM to add to the two I already have in my HP Pavilion Desktop; I understand that the maximum I can run is 3GB with a 32-bit OS. (XP)

I know how to plug it in (!) but is there anything else I need to know?
