Adding wireless laptop to network

by cryptic . Updated 25 years, 4 months ago

I have a stadard 10/100 network of two computers and a hub (Linksys). I recently got a used 266 notebook (Dell) that I want to add to the network, but I want it to be wireless. I was all set to get a Linksys PCI adapter (WDT11) to my main computer and a PC card (WPC11) to the notebook. But the guy at Best Buy said I’d have to have the (WAP11) “Instant Wireless Network Access Point” if I wanted to surf the net also?? Is that true? (FYI: I have an external ADSL modem that connects to the PC via USB) I had thought I could have just used some proxy software to make the shared net connection….

Linksys’ site is not at all clear on this. I was wondering why I would need the the WAP11 at all unless that was a receiver both the PC and the Notebook would need as a hub. And would that be a conflict for my traditional network, i.e., should I just go all wireless?

Thanks
