Administrator/Client rights

I have a computer running Windows 2000. I have to log on as administrator to add software. I am adding an old print shop software and Wordperfect 97. They run great in administrater mode. If I log on as the user, I get error messages, and the programs do not open. Is it possible that the software is so old that it will not work with and adminstrater/user mode?
