Anti-virus protection for networks: alternatives?

by jlvfr . Updated 15 years, 6 months ago

Greetings fellow ITers.

Our Mcafee appliance (a 3100), responsible for filtering our internet traffic, is giving up the ghost. We’ve been trying to upgrade it, but it’s giving us many problems, and Mcafee’s support SUCKS BIG TIME.

So, we’re looking at alternatives. But the budget is tight (I’ve just barelly managed to get approved a 30000+ storage/hardrive) so I have to look at what I can get cheap. But I don’t have much experience in this area.

I’m trying to avoid buying new hardware. I’ve looked at an online service called Zscaler: looks good, but it’s expensive.

So, I came here looking for alternatives. Basically they are: a new appliance (with all it’s costs and problems), an Internet service, or an anti-virus in our proxy server (we are currently tresting Clam-AV. Anyone knows this one?).

Any adice would be apreciated.
