Antivirus

All of the machines here are running some flavor of Symantec Antivirus Corporate. When a signature definition is done, typically there is something that remains onscreen. I know that it can be set to not show anything after an update and just exit. I have mentioned it as something that should be done, but for reasons unknown I am prevented from setting it like that for all of the machines. Is there a benefit to setting it not to exit after updates?
