Any harm in removing MS file and print sharing on a corporate network?

There is a virus that is spreading around a network and it is using MS file and print sharing. I’m trying to gauge the impact of what else disabling this might affect. Someone mentioned that updates are pushed to a hidden share. I see no reason to have this enabled.
