anyone else doing technical editing on c

For a while, I have been considering trying to set myself up as a (part-time) technical editing/indexing consultant/contracter. I live in a university town, and I know of many cases where professors and grad students could use some help with their writing when it comes to scientific papers, dissertations, and textbooks; however, I am not sure if this is something I could get paid a reasonable amount for.
Is anyone out there doing this kind of consulting work, or knows about someone who is, who could give me advice?
