Athlon4-1.2 MHz mobile CPU & PowerNow!

How can I tell if PowerNow! is active on my Compaq 715US laptop (Windows XP-Home)and how do I activate it in the first place?

Compaq’s technical support has told me that there should be a PowerNow! tab in the Power applet of Control Panel; it isnot there. They have also told me to look in Add/Remove Programs for an AMD program; it is not there. I am currently awaiting a call from the second level of Compaq’s tech support (probably Monday).

Microsoft has a fix (Q306458) consisting of a new driver for the processor and a new key for the registry; that didn’t work either.

AMD has not answered my e-mail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
