I have a situation where a user has an Inclose MobileDock IDE hard disk bay in his PC and he uses it to go between different OS’s for testing.
The other day he powered down as usual and switched the drives to go from Win98 to Win2K but when he wentback to Win98 the drive was completely dead (bios couldn’t even find it!) We even tried it outside of the dock and it still was completely dead. I replaced the drive with a new on and it works just fine.
My theory is that it was fried because ATX still has “power” to the mother board even when the system is off. Does that sound right?
Therefore, I feel, he should turn the powerstrip that the pc is connected to off and cut ALL power to the PC before he swaps.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
