authentication passthru on term services

I need ideas on running applications from terminal services on a Win 2000 server. I’d like the client machines to bypass RDP login on the server and simply click an icon on their desktop to work with the applications. The Citrix option is cost prohibitive, however I understand scripts can accomplish this but have found no examples.
