Background color will not change to colo

A user is using a Tecra 8000 laptop. After selecting a color of choice (blue) from the “appearance” tab, “scheme” and Windows Standard (large) in display, we reboot the laptop and the background color reverts back to a color (purple) not chosen. What is the fix for this laptop?
