backing up 2k restoring on server 2k3

I’m curious to that is it possible to back up the system state and sysvol folders, most importantly the active directory in windows server 2000, and then restore the active directory on a windows server 2003…Or if anyone knows how to copy the existing active directory on the 2k server and copy it onto a 2k3 server that would help greatly.
