You are currently head of the systems backup and recovery team for CE-CB plc. Over recent years CE-CB have made a number of company acquisitions and have grown to such an extent that the backup and recovery procedures are now becoming inconsistent across the group of companies

The IT Director based at the Group Head Office has asked you to prepare a report which will be used as a basis for developing a consistent strategy for backup and recovery throughout the CE-CB’s group.

The ITDirector believes that the place to start is to revisit the backup options that are available, and how a backup strategy could be implemented to take account of the different size companies within the group. He has outlined the requirements for thereport below, and says that he sees this as a ‘back to basics report’ which will provide the necessary foundation for helping to redefine and further develop the group’s backup and recovery procedures

The report should includethe following:

? Brief details of the major commercial backup products available
? A description of the major backup types that exist for example ‘Full Backups’
? The benefits and drawbacks of the various backup types
? Backup methods most suitable for small medium and large companies
? A brief description of the types of hardware required for performing backups in small medium and large companies.
? Backup strategies both with reference to media and media rotation
? Recommendations for restore testing and procedures

The following additional information is available to you:

The company is primarily using Novell Netware V5.1, with some Windows 2000 and several Windows NT servers.

The group consists of companies with less than 10 employees, between 50 and 150 employees, and several companies with between 350 – 1000 employees

The smaller companies do not exceed data limits of 40G
