Situation:
I work for a medium sized business that has recently expanded a lot. We manage several remote facilities that connect to our servers via VPN tunnels between Cisco PIX firewalls. We have several servers that are backed up nightly. We have one server that is dedicated to backups. All of our servers have two NICs. In an effort to speed up backups and take some load off of the network I have tried to set up a separate secondary network for server-to-server communications. I currently have only two machines set up to connect to the secondary network, the backup server and an application server.
Problem:
Whenever I bring the two computers onto the secondary network the facilities connecting via VPN tunnel lose the ability to connect to both of the servers. Everyone at the main facility can connect fine, only remote facilities have problems. Is there something in the configuration of the firewalls that I need to change? I did not think that I needed to since the secondary network should only be for server-to-server traffic but any explanation would be appreciated.
