backup problems with IIS

I have a machine running IIS 5 and I’m having trouble backing it up.

I use ArcServe for Open Files and when I try to back up the IIS server it never finishes completely. There’s about 20GB of data on the server, and it takes over 12 hours to backup 75% of it.

One solution I’ve thought about is coming in off peak hours, turn off IIS services, and then proceed with backup. It appears that network activity may be inhibiting the backup process.
