Backup Servers

Hello,

I would like your professional opinion on using a dc box as the front end of a raid storage box. My boss would like to do this to save money. I have my worries about using a domain controller to run the raid box. I think it would be better to purchase a seperate server to run the operating system and backup software and connect a raid storage box to that for the data portion.

Thoughts? Pros vs. Cons?
