Backup Tapes

I currently have a backup strategy using 4mm DDS 3 tapes where a different tape is used every day and overwritten the coresponding day of the following week, except for Fridays, which are overwritten once every month. Some of the tapes are almost a year old, and I’m wondering if they should be rotated. Is there a recommended number for hours of usage before a tape is changed?
