Let?s assume for the minute that my organization decided to trust Google implicitly and is fine with any possible funneling of our data to government entities under illegal circumstances (conceivable). Let?s further assume that transmission of all our data to and from Google are very well encrypted. Ok with all that aside, how much extra bandwidth would my organization need to buy on a monthly basis? Right now most of my nodes have 100meg connections. They tie into switches with 1gig uplinks to a mostly 1gig network. As some of my users use such applications as cad and gis they have even more connectivity to the organizations servers and appliances. Right now I am paying almost 1000.00 per month for 4.5meg of bandwidth to the internet. Who has a calculator? Now let?s look at how much Google will want to charge for their services. Anyone out there want to take a guess? Ok, on the other end my entire it budget including grants and staffing is about 275,000 per year.
