Batch file in Windows 98

I want to execute a batch file in Visual Fox (6.0). The purpose of the .BAT file is to backup my folder DATA to another folder called NOTOCAR. When I execute the command DEL in order to refresh de folder NOTOCAR before I execute XCOPY, the command DEL doesn’t function. Any suggestions?
