Belkin Wireless Router intermittent problem

by patrickplee . Updated 18 years ago

Er, my first time here sorry. Ok I have a regular Belkin wireless G router -2.4Ghz-802.11g. The problem persisted recently ever since telewest broadband has been converted to Virgin media.

I am the admin of the router and I have a laptop (desktop replacement) directly connected to the router with a 2m ethernet cable. My 2 friends are connected by wireless and one by ethernet.

Whenever one of my friends connect to the internet, 30seconds to 5 minutes later all of router’s LEDs flashes orange lights:indicating an error of some sort. Everybody recieves a message on their desktop, “limited or no connectivity” and their wireless SSCID cannot be found.

ethernet users inclucing myself get the same message “limited or no connectivity” and then “Local Area Connection connected 10Mbps”.

The only way i figured to resolve this is to turn the wireless off for 2-5minutes and turn the router back on. And then the whole cycle repeats over and over again.

I recently found out that whenever the other user on the ethernet is unpluged the router error is no longer there.

I have installed the windows XP updates, the latest AVG antispyware and AVG anti-virus on all computers, and the problem still persists!

I went to PCworld to discuss this matter. And they say the router is perfectly fine. I phoned virgin media and they say it could be their maintenence on the broadband. I phoned up Belkin tech-support and they still say the router is fine and that my friends may have spyware or some sort.

What can I do? is the belkin wireless router faulty? Can anyone explain the router’s misbehaviour?
