Best way to get useful info via SNMP

by waity85 . Updated 20 years ago

I am developing a monitoring system for a client that users diverse a diverse collection of equipement from different vendors. The monitoring system that I currently have in place is Nagios v1.3.

This works fine for basic usage but I am trying to develop extra plugins to monitor more advance and specific situations.

The majority of my queries probes a device using SNMP (which I have grown to love after using it for a couple of months). The main problem that I have hit is that I am finding it difficult to get a comprehensive list of what information is available from each device.

The standard snmpwalk misses parts of the tree out leaving me ‘in the dark’ about some of the capabilities of the devices.

Any help in finding this information would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks in advance
