Binary to ASCII file type?

I am receiving in a binary file via FTP on to my NT server. How do I convert this file to ASCII format?

Additional info: I have asked my partner to send this file in binary format so that it doesn’t lose any of the file integrity from the original system. But my system has to process the ASCii format.
