black screen

i just recently tried hooking up another dell moniter to mydimensionc521 it will come on for a second or two then goes black.if im fast enough i can hit the menu button on the moniter but a locked padlock shows up in a blue square then boom screen goes black whats the problem????? please help.the other moniters i have all work well with this tower??
