Booting Problem

by akumarjain . Updated 22 years, 11 months ago

I have P-III 750 MHZ, 128 MB SDRAM, 20 GB HDD with WIN’98 loaded on it. While loading windows at system start up, as soon as it encounters “Device=Himem.sys” line, system reboots. Fresh installation of HIMEM.SYS or Windows didn’t help.

If i boot the system using step-by-step confirmation mode and bypass the “device=himem.sys” directive, it boots to command prompt without any problem but windows won’t load due to non availability of himem.sys.

If I copy the HIMEM.SYS to a floppy and changethe line in config.sys to “DEVICE=A:\HIMEM.SYS”, system would boot with no problem at all.

Please help. I have tried with “Load BIOS defaults” and “Load Setup defaults” in BIOS Setup but to no avail.
