Broadcast information

by bobwelshjr . Updated 22 years, 11 months ago

We had a recent situation in our internal network that led us to believe we had an intrusion. We have instituted much stricter firewall controls and are in the process of tightening down the hatches, and have something going on that is probably normal but we don’t like. I downloaded and ran Angry IP Scanner 2.20 on our network, and noticed that every computer basically broadcasts its hostname, machinename and username information in some manner, because Angry IP Scanner found it all. What I want to know is, how can we block, hide or mask this information from being broadcast? IS there a way? I nosed around on Microsoft’s site but you know, when you find white papers there detailing how we can use their data mining features in their OS to develop marketing strategies, I am not comfortable trying their way of network security.
Any help, guidance or assistance would sure help!
