Browsing differences between Explorer and Dos

Hi,

I have a vpn connection between two of my sites. I have a samba server that requires workgroup authentication. I map the share with net use and the user creditials perfectly and i am able to browse the share using dos. As soon as i open explorer, and try viewing the mapped share , it says that the network cannot be seen. If i take the authentication off, everything works. So i want to know, what extra stuff does explorer use that dos doesnt use.
