I parition the hard drive with seperate partions for OS, Swap, Data and Backup. I setup backup routine that has a Daily (week 1 – 5), weekly (1-5) ,and 12 monthly tapes. Back in January this year while I was out for medical reasons The server picked up a virus. The owner of the company who’s clueless about computers brought in a friend who has a “Computer store” basically for home computers. This person rather than fixing the server installed a New machine setup Windows Server 2000 without any regard to the active directory stucture or user & group structures. To make a long story short the new server is not running nearly as well as the old one and I’m having trouble convincing this Home computer Geek and the owner that his backup routine of full level backup over writing the same tape everyday and disk of 1 partition is not suitable for a business setup. In fact his response is “I’ve setup a few others the same way and they work”
What’s your opinion.
