Cable internet to Wireless?

Currently I have a cable internet hook-up but would like to route this into wireless. Can I do this from home or does it require permissions from my ISP?

Can I purchase a router to make my cable internet wireless?

Yeah, I have no knowledge of computers at all. I’ve got three kids that all seem to need to do homework at once.
