cable modem

When I returned home yesterday, my cable modem had suddenly quit working. It shows PC link, cable connection, power, and the cable company can see my computer; I can pull my ip address; but I cannot ping nor will any applications work. The tech said he thought my WINsocks in explorer had been corrupted, but would that prevent even outlook from connecting? I just message cannot find server, over and over.

Working on Me, 256 mg RAM, Pent. III. I have unplugged and replugged into different cable jacks and it won’t come back up.
