Can Activesync push email work on Exchange 2007 Hub with 2003 mailbx svrs ?

I’m wondering if anyone has configured activesync, push emails, on a 2007 Hub CAS server with ~4 2003 mail box servers located in branch offices. I’ve seen conflicting information that says active sync/push emails must be configured on the mailbox server.

That is, we want to replace the Exchange 2003 bridgehead/front end server with an exchange 2007 ( I think hub server ) that will enable active sync push email.

All mailbox servers are Exchange 2003 SP 2 and the domain level has been lifted to 2003.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
