CAN ANYBODY HELP ME????

i am a software developer but my knowledge is far behind… i wanna know what is the latest thing in software development both in server client environment and stand alone application..im having problems in large database delays in accessing. it would be great if anybody from this site would givem e ideas and references to.thanks and more power.
