Can I ping a cable modem?

I have a cable modem on my computer, can I
somehow ping the modem from the machine that
it’s attached to and find out the IP address
of the machine? I want to be able to send out a ping to any IP address and have it come back with a list of the location pinged and
my IP address.

Can this be done?
