Can i use 2 printers and no switch box?

I recently saw a response to a question about using two printers on one PC with the use of a switch box. My question is: if my PC is USB equipped along with the standard parallel port..would i not be able to utilize both of these printing connectivity options to achieve this goal without the switch box?
