Can I use a UK laptop in the US?

I have an Advent 5480 laptop which I want to take to the US on holiday. There seems to be no switch to change the voltage from 240V to 110V. Can I just plug it in to charge the battery using an adaptor so the plug fits the socket, or do I need a voltage adaptor?
