I recently ran a Security template program against my server just to check to see what areas I needed to tie-down — the system also allows you to let “it” fix the found issues too, and since there were some minor ones (mostly password and account related) I went through and unchecked all that I knew I didn’t want it to touch to let it do the few minor ones. Well, yes that was the dumbest thing I’ve ever done. Everything else seems ok, but I obviously didn’t uncheck everything as now I no longer can connect via remote desktop to my server (win 2003 sp2). I get the following error message upon attempting to connect with my administrator username/password.
Complete Error Message Dialog:
“To log on to this remote computer, you must be granted the Allow log on through Terminal Services right. By default, members of the Remote Desktop Users group have this right. If you are not a member of the Remote Desktop Users group or another group that has this right, or if the Remote Desktop User group does not have this right, you must be granted this right manually.”
Facts:
* My admin account is in the Remote Desktop User’s group
* the “allow users to remotely connect to this computer” is checked
* When attempting to view/edit some the group policy settings – I receive an error stating that the template cannot be found (or something like that)
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can try to reestablish this?
