Can ping some websites but not others

I have a strange situation:
Win 2000 machine fully patched. I am able to ping some sites by name eg. MSN.com, novell.com but it will not ping google.com and others. It will ping the google IP address, indicating a DNS problem, but why does it not have a DNS problem with MSN or novell? The TCP/IP setting are correct. It has the same primary & secondary DNS servers as all the other machine on the network. It is the only machine on the network with this problem. I have swapped NIC’s, plugged directly into switch with different patch cables. I’m pretty much at a loss. Any ideas? Thanks.
