I have been using PING for a very long time and I never heard this before and just want to verify what I am thinking is correct.
At my job I used to use PING however back in November our parent company decided to change from one VPN service to another (Cisco). Here in my office, a Cisco Pix 501 was installed. Ever since it was installed I have not been able to use the PING or Tracert commands. I would get request timed out. When I asked the person in our parent company (who knows nothing about networks or computers)to ask the people who installed the router why I can not PING, he came back to me and asked why do I want to PING, he told me that PING has been linked to bringing down routers and their might be a ICMP filter to block it. I have never heard of PING bringing down routers and would like to verify that what this guy is saying is incorrect. Who is right?
