Trying to work out if we need a second server – here are the tasks
our current server fulfills:
DNS
DHCP
Domain Controller
Active Directory
Gateway/Router to Internet
WUS (Windows Update Services)
Antivirus updates to clients
Roaming profiles for about 50 users (max. size 30mb)
On a network of about 20pc’s.
The server is new (july2007) Dell PowerEdge 860 with 2gb of ram,
one 2.13 dual core processor, two NICs and two 250gb harddrives
mirroring each other.
My intial thought is that it can handle it, but my gut feeling wants to
put the internet gateway/router on one of the old servers. However
this has been giving me some trouble, which I think is because the
NAT has a hard time running on seperate servers from DNS and
DHCP. Any thoughts on this would also be appreciated. 🙂 Thanks
