Can X:\WINNT\CSC folder be compressed?

Can the %systemroot%\CSC folder which contains your offline files be safely compressed by right-clicking it and choosing properties/advanced to compress it’s contents. Mine is currently 2gb and I don’t want to lose the information if this isn’t supported. This is a protected operating system folder which is why I have some doubts.
