I cannot access any network resources on My network places or by typing the PC address ip address on the address bar of explorer. I have 3 pcs on my home network. no permissions have changed on the other 2 pcs. The other 2 pcs can see each other fine but not the problem PC. But I can go on internet and ping the other network pcs successfully.
Actions I have made to resolve but with no success are:
Remove any programs installed back to 1 day before problem occured.
Used MSconfig to boot windows with minimal startup services.
Ran Defender, Ad-aware and AVG scans to remove any malware or viruses if any.
Temporarily switch off windows xp firewall
Flushed DNS
Finally rolled back restore point to 2 days before problem occured.
none of these actions solved the problem. As I say I can ping the other pcs but cannot access any resources on them. Following error occurs for instance if I double click on “downloads on homelaptop” in my network places: “\\homelaptop\downloads is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network location cannot be reached. For more information about network troubleshooting, see windows help”. If I type \\homelaptop\downloads in addrsss bar of explorer window, I get the same message. I can ping its Ip address but not its host name. I cannot ping the IP address or hostname of this pc from the other two home pcs on the network.
I am using Windows XP mediacentre 2005 edition
