I have a machine on a peer-to-peer Win ’98 network that suddenly (after working for a year like this) cannot open Network Neighborhood and browse. When I say browse, I mean the hourglass goes on and on and never resolves(can’t even see itself). I can, however, map network shares in Explorer and access the other network shares.
I have uninstalled/reinstalled the protocols (Netbeui and TCP/IP), made each the default protocol, tried TCP/IP only, Netbeui only and still cannot get netwk neighborhood browse. It seems to be a resolution problem, but I can’t get a grip on it.
The weird thing is the same thing happened at another client on a Win ’98 station on an NT network with a domain (master browser). I can map UNC’s all day long, butcannot browse in net neighborhood. Even changed network cards and cabling, ports on hub and changed hubs. It doesn’t happen on other machines, just the one Win ’98.
Help! Anyone seen this? Thanks!!
