I am having problems connecting Windows XP clients to a Windows Small Business Server 2003 Premium R2 server. I am adding the SBS server to a network that is already in place (2-applications servers\20-clients) and providing Internet access to all clients (Users do not currently log-in to network, just to local computer). DHCP & DNS is currently handled by a Cisco Router managed by the ISP.
However, when trying to connect the clients to the SBS server via the “ConnectComputer” Wizard, I am getting the following error: “The list of users and computers cannot be found. Before you continue, ensure that the client computer has a wired network connection. Also, if you have a router performing DHCP services on your network, verify that the router is configured to use the computer running Windows SBS as the primary DNS server…..”.
My configuration is:
Windows SBS Premium R2
Cisco Router Running DHCP & DNS, NAT translations, Firewall
Presario ML310 with 1 NIC
IP Address: 10.0.1.141
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 10.0.1.1 (internal interface on Cisco Router)
Server DNS Settings:
Primary: 10.0.1.141
Secondary: 64.238.96.12
DHCP is disabled on the SBS server
Not using the SBS Firewall
Client Workstation Info:
IP Address: 10.0.1.115
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 10.0.1.1
Additional Info:
The SBS is connected to the LAN via switch and not connected directly to the router. I have applied all service packs to clients and server. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.
