Cannot find manufacturer?

How do I get a scanner to work when I cannot find support from the manufacturer or retailer? I recently bought a scanner at a swap meet. ImageReader Express by Info Peripherals.

I get the error message “cannot find scanner” or “The procedure entry point SMapLS could not be located in teh dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll”

Do you know of someone with this type scanner or has gotten past such errors with other scanners. DO I need a SCSI card?
