I’m having a terrible time with a particular WSS 3.0 site. I built a site for a remote location that is out-of-state. They’d been using VPN for managing their files, but it got out of hand. The idea was to build a site under our SharePoint server for them.
I built it without issues and began to upload files from their network share to their shared document library.
Almost immediately, I got a message that a particular file or folder was “improperly named or too long”. I have the feeling it was an ampersand because the folder name was quite short. I canceled the file copy operation.
Now, when I try to copy ANYTHING to the library, I get “There is already a folder with the same name as the file name you specified. Specify a different name”. This is on a brand new document called ‘test.doc’, so I’m sure nothing is there. The library is obviously broken.
So I tried deleting the library and creating a new one. No luck. I deleted the site and recreated it. No luck.
I have no idea why this is happening or what to do. Can anyone help???
